Westport PAL Lacrosse is excited to announce NEW winter lacrosse programming. Brand new Staples HS Head Coach Will Koshansky and his high school staff will be running winter box training for our 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th graders. This program has been designed by Coach Koshansky and his staff and will be a true box lacrosse training series. Please find bios for the HS coaches below.

Due to field space constraints (with Coleytown MS being closed) the Staples Fieldhouse is in high demand for in-season sports. Therefore these sessions will take place at Insports in Trumbull inside of their actual box lacrosse rink. This setting will provide the opportunity for our boys to experience the box lacrosse game with full boards in a confined area.

What is box lacrosse?

Box lacrosse is an indoor version of lacrosse played inside of a rink with boards. The game originated in Canada where it is the national summer sport. Playing box lacrosse allows for every player to have more touches, more dodges, more shots, more checks, and develop at a faster pace than outdoor lacrosse. For these reasons, box lacrosse is a great way to train through the winter. Many college and high level HS programs use box lacrosse as a training tool through the fall and winter months. The smaller area forces all players to be involved in every play and the ball never goes out of bounds!

Westport Boy’s Box Program @ Insports

This winter’s box training program will include ten 90-minute sessions that take place on Sundays at InSports. The 90 minute sessions will be divided into 60 minutes of real box drills and 30 minutes of box lacrosse gameplay. The high school coaching staff will be putting the boys through drills to improve their stickwork, dodging, shooting, defending, as well as introducing box lacrosse concepts like the two man game, running the floor, and shooting with the “eye of your stick” among others. The floor surface at Insports is field turf so players can wear cleats, turf shoes, or sneakers. Goalies are encouraged to attend these sessions and play out of the net as a field player.
