In 2010, the Westport
PAL is expanding its Flag Football Program to include Grades 3-8. The program consists of three divisions: Bantam (Grades 3-4), Junior (Grades 5-6) and Senior (Grades 7-8). The program is mirrored after the NFL FLAG Football program that was launched in 1996. The program is designed to educate young people about football while emphasizing participation and sportsmanship. Players learn skills and lessons that help them succeed both on and off the field. The program provides young players a fun and exciting opportunity to engage in non-contact, continuous action while learning lessons in teamwork. Teams will be coached by parent and other volunteers and the Westport PAL is actively soliciting coaches for this new and exciting program. Since this is a first year program and overall player participation in the program cannot be determined until the registration process is completed, the Westport PAL reserves the right to amend the divisional breakouts currently being contemplated.

Flag practices will begin on Friday, September 3.  Practices will be held at the SaugatuckElementary School football field Fridays, 5:30 – 6:30 P.M.  Usually one 60-minute practice per week is sufficient once the season gets started, though a coach may choose to practice more frequently.

  • The Flag Football season games will begin Saturday, September 11 and run through Saturday, October 23.  No standings are kept, no championship awarded.
  • Games will be played on Saturdays at SaugatuckElementary SchoolTentative start time for all day games will be at 8:00 a.m.  Start time means kick-off.  Teams should arrive early enough prior to kick-off for warm-ups and preparation.  There will be 1 night game to be played at GreensFarmsSchool
