Gr. 3/4 Program:  No Evaluation Needed.  Balanced Teams.

Important Information:

  • NO CUTS.  All registered and paid players make a team.

  • Evaluations are held indoors.

  • Evaluations are based on a player's level regarding: athleticism, stickwork, skill, game sense and attitude (effort, hustle, focus and coachability).  Our goal is to place each child on the team that they are best suited to and that best suits the program.

  • Girls must be pre-registered in order to attend tryouts.  NO WALK-INS ALLOWED.

  • Girls should arrive 20 minutes ahead of time to check in. Girls need to bring a stick, goggles, mouthguard, cleats or turf shoes and must wear their numbered/named pinnie that they previously picked up at ASF.

  • Girls who can not make the evaluation dates will be dealt with on a case by case basis and must alert westportpalgirlslax@gmail.com in advance.

  • The coaching staff reserves the right to move players, once practice begins, if players are deemed a better fit elsewhere.

AGE-BASED PROGRAM:  Westport Lacrosse teams are age-based according to the following chart:

CONNY Grade / Birth Date Ranges

CONNY

Division

Grade

Birth Date Range

Age Group

Senior

8

Born 3/1/2004 through 8/31/2005

14U

7

Born 9/1/2005 through 8/31/2006

13U

Junior

6

Born 9/1/2006 through 8/31/ 2007

12U

5

Born 9/1/2007 through 8/31/2008

11U

Notes:

  • Children YOUNGER than the birth dates with their grade have a choice to play with their grade or play with the younger grade.  The child must elect which team they are trying out for PRIOR to tryouts and stay with that group for the season.

  • Children OLDER than the birth dates for their grade must play in the grade or age group their birthdate is linked to (play up).

  • Children in grade K-4 play with their grade.

  • OLDER children in 8th grade are given six extra months to play in the program because they cannot play high school.  Children older than the 3/1/2004 cut off and in 8th grade may petition Westport PAL and CONNY if they wish to play.

  • Some areas of the Westport program will continue to have mixed grade level teams.  These teams are required to play teams in their division. For example, a 5/6 grade team can play any team in the Junior Division.   As is always the case, scheduling does consider the age, size and ability of our teams when selecting appropriate games.

  • Westport does not allow players to play in an older birth date range.
