DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM

These programs are designed for younger girls, beginners and/or for girls who would like to improve their skills and better learn the game of lacrosse in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

GRADES K-2 CLINICS:  Clinics will focus on the basic fundamentals of girls lacrosse.  Parent/guardian (adult) must accompany and stay with child during clinic in case of emergency.

Details:  Saturdays • 4/21 - 6/9 • 8 sessions • 9am-10am • PJ Romano Field (Saugatuck Elementary School) • reversible pinnie included • $150 • REGISTRATION IS OPEN.  

GRADES 3-4 HOUSE PROGRAM:  This program is designed as a developmental program for travel.  Games will be  placed on equally balanced house teams.  Practice is with all 3rd & 4th graders (including travel).  Games will be against the other house teams and we will have a few friendly games against house teams in the immediate area.  Weekend gmaes will be primarily either Saturday 11:30am-12:30pm or Sunday 11:00am-12:00pm.  No evaluations for this program.

Details:  Practice once a week, day tbc, 6-7:30pm • One weekend small-sided game • April 2 - June 10 • 9 weeks • Ginny Parker Field (Staples High School) customized reversible pinnie included • $225 • REGISTRATION IS OPEN, late fee of $50 after 1/31.   NEW!  All girls must have a valid US Lacrosse number through 6/30/18.

TRAVEL PROGRAM

TRAVEL PARENT MEETING:  MANDATORY FOR ALL NEW TO TRAVEL.  STRONGLY RECOMMENDED FOR ALL TRAVEL PLAYERS DUE TO NEW GRADE LEVEL TEAMS SAUGATUCK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AUDITORIUM TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 27TH, 7:30PM.

PRESEASON:  Get a lacrosse stick back in your hands, move your feet and work on skills and drills needed for evaluations. For girls, grades 3-8, trying out for travel.  We hope to hold up to 7 sessions, weather permitting.

Details:  Weekdays • Ginny Parker Field • dates (weather permitting) 3/5, 3/6, 3/7, 3/8, 3/9, 3/12, 3/13 • Grades 3-6: 4pm-5:00pm, Grades 7-8: 5:00pm-6:00pm • $50. REGISTRATION IS OPEN

GRADE 3-4 TRAVEL PROGRAM:  We encourage all interested girls, grades 3-4, to tryout for our travel program.  We will field one “A” team at this level.  The team will practice 2x/week with an additional, optional technical day open to all players, grades 3-8.  Games are predominantly on the weekend with the possibility of weekday games in lieu of a scheduled practice.  Games are 8v8 including a goalie and are run cross field.  Evaluation Required.  At the 3-4 level, all girls will register for the house team.  Those who are invited to the travel team after evaluations will be billed a supplemental fee of $150.  Girls who do not make the “A” team will automatically be in the house program.

GRADE 5-8 TRAVEL PROGRAM:  The program consists of teams at the travel level from grades 5-8 as defined by the age-based program outlined below.  Teams practice 2x/week with an additional, optional technical day open to all players, grades 3-8.  Games are predominantly on the weekend on either Saturday or Sunday with the possibility of weekday games. All teams are travel teams and all players make a team.  Evaluation Required.

Grade 3-8 Travel Details:  March 19-June 10 • customized, reversible pinnie included • $375 • REGISTRATION IS OPEN, late fee of $50 applies after 1/15, registration for new players only after 2/15. NEW!  All girls must have a valid US Lacrosse number through 6/30/18.

TEAMS: We anticipate, Westport spring girls lacrosse travel teams to be organized as follows.  This is subject to change based on numbers at registration:

  • Grades 3/4 - 1 team (3/4A)

  • Grades 5/6 - 4 teams (6A, 5A, 5/6 Pride, 5/6 Wreckers (equally balanced "B" teams))

  • Grades 7/8 - 4 teams (8A, 7A, 7/8 Pride, 7/8 Wreckers (equally balanced "B" teams))

Due to our the increased interest in our lacrosse program and the resulting increase in number of teams, we do our best to keep practices consistent as to time and field.  However, other Westport PAL home games, Staples Varsity, JV and Freshman games and other circumstances, will sometimes cause us to change location or time.  Please pay attention to your weekly team parent emails and your website schedule for updates.

OPTIONAL TECHNICAL  PRACTICE:  All players, grades 3-8, are invited to participate in our Technical Practice • day tbd starting week of 4/2 • 6:00pm-7:30pm • Ginny Parker Field.

TRAVEL TEAM COMMITMENT:   Lacrosse is a spring sport and we expect our girls to commit to lacrosse and their team as their primary spring sport.  If unable to make all of your assigned practices, please discuss your situation with your coach.  There is the opportunity to make-up a practice during the Optional Technical Practice.  Unexcused absences will be dealt with on a case by case basis and may result in loss of starting position or less playing time.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:

  • Properly sized girls lacrosse stick

  • Mouthguard (no strap), can not be clear or white

  • Eyeguard

  • Sneakers/Turf Shoes/Cleats

  • Water

  • Balls will be provided

UNIFORMS/PINNIES:  All travel players will need to purchase a uniform for games.  Uniforms consist of (1) a white numbered uniform pinnie, (2) a blue numbered uniform pinnie, (3) a navy skort and (4) uniform socks. Uniforms are ordered from ASF Sports & Outdoors (1560 Post Rd E, Westport).  Returning player can use last year's uniform or can purchase a new one from ASF, if needed.  ASF will have sample uniform sizes available for your daughter to try. We strongly suggest you do so as uniforms are custom and CAN NOT be refunded or exchanged.  All House and Travel players will also receive a complementary customized pinnie with your number and name. These are ordered by the Board on your behalf.

Grades 3/4 HOUSE:  No Evaluation Needed.  

Important Information:

  • Evaluations are held indoors.

  • Evaluations are based on a player's level regarding: athleticism, stickwork, skill, game sense and attitude (effort, hustle, focus and coachability).  Our goal is to place each child on the team that they are best suited to and that best suits the program.

  • Girls must be pre-registered in order to attend tryouts.  NO WALK-INS ALLOWED.

  • Girls should arrive 20 minutes ahead of time to check in. Girls need to bring a stick, goggles, mouthguard, cleats or turf shoes and must wear their numbered/named pinnie that they previously picked up at ASF.  

  • Girls who can not make the evaluation dates will be dealt with on a case by case basis and must alert westportpalgirlslax@gmail.com in advance.

  • The coaching staff reserves the right to move players, once practice begins, if players are deemed a better fit elsewhere.

WESTPORT GLAX REFUND POLICY:  Refunds will not be given once the first practice and/or evaluation has taken place.  Any refunds processed prior to the start of the season will be a full refund less a $75 processing fee.  

Please understand that Westport PAL Girls Lacrosse is a non-profit organization.  We base our budget, hire coaches and purchase equipment based on our registration numbers.  It is therefore a burden on the program to issue refunds once the season has started.
